Mathematics

Children at MIS understand that mathematics is not just a set of abstract concepts and formulas but is the foundation and basis that governs the world. Through play-learn activities and the reenactment of real situations, children learn the importance of mathematics and its use in everyday life. This type of teaching puts the child at the centre of the learning process: they feel more stimulated to learn because they are aware of why they need to memorise and master certain principles and fundamentals. We move away from the thought that numbers are first and foremost something written down, and the child is encouraged to learn new notions concretely (quantities, links between numbers...), which can then be represented through mathematical language with codes and symbols.
